Legacy Lore

This page contains many lore elements that are not considered part of the new, official lore. It's very unlikely that it will still be considered canon for new lore, but will maintain relevance in old lore.

Crunchers are a species of Corruption with toothed jaws and no eyes.

Lore[]

Crunchers are attracted to Computers which have an abundance of Data-entities that have a lot of extra data, such as Program Chubbs and Bloatware. When invading computers, typically a single Cruncher will lead a pack of smaller Cruncher variants called Munchers. Once a computer has been successfully invaded, Crunchers will hunt down the Chubbs and Bloatware within, then devour their extra data.

Weapons/Abilities[]

Detection Evasion - Canonically, Crunchers are able to invade computers without being detected by the computers' defenses.

Bite - Canonically (currently unknown if this applies in-game), Crunchers are able to use their mouths to attack enemies.

Claw - Canonically (currently unknown if this applies in-game), Crunchers are able to use their claw-like hands to claw at their enemies.

Shadowfy - Crunchers can shadowfy, which makes them invisible for a few seconds before returning to normal.

Real World Counterpart[]

In real life, Cruncher is a file virus most known for the fact that is compresses the files it infects. Most programs infected with this virus will decrease in size as they are executed, though programs under 3 kilobytes may actually show a small increase in size. It doesn't do anything outside of compressing files, though this may result in some programs not functioning properly.

More Facts[]

  • Crunchers are able to be unlocked as playable characters in Databrawl Roleplay via obtaining the badge "Fitness Funeral" in Databrawl (Battle Version).
  • Crunchers are based off of the real-life computer virus by the same name.
  • Crunchers can be tamed and made into allies by entities with various alignments, such as friendly characters, malicious characters, etc.
    • This behavior is based off of how in real life, the Cruncher virus was beneficial in some scenarios but people considered it questionable how the virus could get into computers undetected.
  • Cruncher is the third out of three characters to have had a "Classic" version ingame as a separate character, with the first being Werehybrid and the second being Vanilla. This "Classic Version" was removed on July 3, 2021.
  • Crunchers were previously in Character Pack #1, but once Cruncher was redesigned into its current design, it became a badge-earned character.
  • According to Cruncher's creator, SudoMesh, Crunchers were designed off of onis from Japanese mythology.
