Legacy Lore

This page contains many lore elements that are not considered part of the new, official lore. It's very unlikely that it will still be considered canon for new lore, but will maintain relevance in old lore.

Malware are a species of Corruption. Their goal is to conquer the Dataverse. They are willing to kill anything which stands in the way of their path, including other Corruptions.

Databrawl Battle Zone[]

Malware are one of the two Corruption factions in Databrawl's Battle Zone, with the other faction being Virus. In-game, they share the exact same stats as Viruses and function identically to the Viruses in gameplay. There are no differences.

Stats[]

Standard Malware have 100HP (115 with VIP) and 24 walkspeed.

Lore[]

Canonically, Malware lean more towards slow-attacking weapons with high damage (This is not reflected in the Battle Zone, however). Unlike the Viruses, they prioritize collecting Bits over Program Hearts, but they do not ignore Program Hearts entirely. They also prioritize looting and capturing places over complete destruction, unlike the Viruses. Due to this, they tend to have more captured Programs and other enslaved entities than Viruses do, and have more Bits at their bases than Program Hearts.

According to a QnA done at 11:00 Eastern Daylight Time on 10/29/2021, Malware are made of a stone-like material, contrasting the viruses' crystal material.

In addition to speaking the language of their host computer, in lore, Malware have their own unique language that only fellow Malware can understand.

Weapons/Abilities[]

Infection - Like many Corruptions, Malware are capable of infecting Programs and other software both when alive and when deceased. However, Malware cannot infect other Corruptions. The corrupting process for Malware, by default, has the property of wiping the past memories of the infected software. Though, there are very rare instances where a piece of Malware-corrupted software may either retain its past memories upon being fully corrupted or have pieces of their past memories brought back into their minds after being triggered by something. When Malware infect other software, the software corrupts into a Malware whose type matches that of the original software (i.e. if a default Malware corrupts a Prettygram, the Prettygram will corrupt into a Meanware).Malware are also known to wield the following weapons and tools:

Rank Variants[]

Class variants can also have different rankings. Malware can move up in their ranking via actively fighting and eating Program Hearts, although it may take years for them to become ready to upgrade. Upon becoming ready and upgrading to a higher ranking, they are provided accessories to match their rank, and their body structure changes somewhat. In order of most basic to highest quality, the list of ranks (after "Standard" rank, the most basic) are:

Advanced Malware[]

Advanced Malware are upgraded versions of Malware. As their in-game description once stated, they are more difficult to remove from the computer. On February 3rd, 2021, in-game Advanced Malware were changed from standalone characters to Accessories for Malware.

Elite Malware[]

Elite Malware are the upgrade stage that comes after Advanced.

Master Malware[]

Master Malware are the upgrade stage that comes after Elite.

Grandmaster Malware[]

Grandmaster Malware are the upgrade stage that comes after Master.

Prime Variants[]

The rankings also have an upgraded form called "Prime". The Prime form is the rank at its highest potential, and is an extremely difficult form to obtain. This makes seeing Prime individuals a very uncommon occurrence. An individual in their Prime form cannot be upgraded any further unless updated by their software provider, or unless they train on their own and ascend in rank. Presumably, "Grandmaster Prime" is the highest possible ranking form. Once a Malware has reached Prime form, it gains new physical features such as visible fingers, extra parts, and goes from being pupilless to having a pupil.

Malware Brawlers are a class variant of Malware that are harder, better, faster, and stronger than standard Malware.

Databrawl Battle Zone[]

In Databrawl's Battle Zone, Malware Brawlers are one of the possible characters for players on the Malware team to start as (if they do not press the "Play as default"/"Play as support" button). The chances of spawning as a Malware Brawler can be increased with the Brawler Booster gamepass.

Stats[]

200HP (215 with VIP), 24 walkspeed

Weapons/Abilities[]

Ground Smash - Malware Brawlers have the ability to perform an AOE "Ground Smash" attack by slamming their fists into the ground, which causes a cloud of colored dust (which matches the Malware Brawlers' color, albeit more dusty/grayish) to rise from the ground. It does 32-36 Damage and has a cooldown of 20 seconds. This attack has a radius of 16 studs.

Megapunchers - Malware Brawlers have the ability to punch their enemies with their fists, called "Megapunchers". This attack deals 36-40 damage, has a cooldown of 0.9 seconds and is categorized as a "Bare Knuckles" attack.

Rank Variants[]

Advanced Malware Brawler[]

Advanced Malware Brawlers are upgraded versions of Malware Brawlers. They have head armor and shoulder pads.

More Malware Brawler Facts[]

  • Advanced Malware Brawlers originally had a different design. They were revamped to their current designs on August 24, 2019. In addition to this, the regular Malware Brawler model was cleaned up, however there was no change to the overall design.
    • On August 28, 2023, Malware Brawlers and their advanced counterparts were remodeled again.
  • There was a hint in-game relating to Malware Brawlers and Virus Brawlers that makes a reference to a Daft Punk song called "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger". It stated that Brawlers are harder, better, faster, and stronger variants of regular (standard) characters. However, this is no longer the case.
  • Malware Brawlers originally had 25 walkspeed, but their walkspeed was changed to 24 at some point between 2020-2021.
  • Advanced Malware Brawlers were changed from standalone characters to Accessories for Malware Brawlers on February 3rd, 2021.

More Malware Brawler Images[]

Malware Bytes are a small and weak variant of Malware.

Canonically, they are capable of zapping enemies via an electric laser pulse that comes out of them. Their zaps don't hurt too much, but their enemies must be wary, as their little zaps can add up over time to make big damage.

Databrawl Battle Zone[]

In the Battle Zone, Malware Bytes are characters obtained via random spawn chance for the Malware team.

Stats[]

70HP (85 with VIP), 25 Walkspeed

Weapons/Abilities[]

Laser Beams - Malware Bytes are able to damage enemies via a laser beam which can reach enemies within a 24 stud radius. These lasers deal 8 damage per laser, and are fired every .625 seconds.

Rank Variants[]

Malware Bytes can have different rankings in addition to the standard, basic rank.

Advanced Malware Byte[]

Advanced Malware Bytes are the upgraded version of Malware Bytes. As their in-game description states, they are more annoying to remove from the computer. They were turned into accessories for Malware Bytes on February 3rd, 2021.

More Facts[]

  • Malware Bytes were initially added to the Battle Zone sometime in March 2018. Upon initially being added, they could jump and sometimes their automatic zapping mechanic would stop working after a while, but these two things were corrected shortly afterwards. After several months of functioning as intended, they (and Virus Bytes) were removed on September 7, 2018 due to their zapping code becoming buggy. Program Bytes and Firewall Scouts were also removed a bit afterwards. After the removal of Bytes in the Battle Zone, Malware Bytes were added back to the Test Version on May 2, 2020. Then, they were added back to the Battle Zone on May 17, 2020.
  • Originally, when Malware Bytes were in the Battle Zone back in 2018 before their temporary removal, their lasers did 8 damage and were fired every .625 seconds. They had 75 health.

Malware Nybbles are a short variant of Malware. They are weaker than standard Malware.

Their main job is to bring supplies such as food and Mines to higher-level class variants such as standard Malware, Malware Brawlers, etc.

Databrawl Battle Zone[]

In the Battle Zone, Malware Nybbles are characters obtained via random spawn chance for the Malware team.

Stats[]

80HP (95 with VIP), 24 WALKSPEED

Weapons/Abilities[]

Nybble Fists - Fists that deal 24-28 damage. They have a low cooldown but short range.

Item Carrying - Nybbles are able to carry items to give to allies at a later date. They do this by grabbing items, storing them in their inventory, and "slapping" teammates to give it to them.

Nybble Charge - Nybbles have the ability to launch themselves forward by charging, going slightly faster than the normal walkspeed, charging into an enemy, wall, or window, will cause the charge to stop.

Rank Variants[]

Malware Nybbles can have different rankings other than the basic rank.

Advanced Malware Nybble[]

Malware Nybbles can move up in their ranking via actively fighting and eating Program Hearts, although it may take years (in Dataverse time) for them to become ready to upgrade. Upon becoming ready and upgrading to a higher ranking, they are provided accessories to match their rank, and their body structure changes somewhat.

More Facts[]

  • At one point, Malware Nybbles were playable characters in the Battle Zone and Test Version of Databrawl. When they were first added to the Test Version, they could not attack at all. Then, after that, they could carry/use Mines and other items in their inventory like other characters. This was then changed so that they could not carry things in their inventory and could only carry things on their heads, not use them. Enemy players were able to steal items from Nybbles since they carried them on their heads. After being tested in the Test Version, they were added to the Battle Zone as a playable character. At some point, they were removed from the Battle Zone and Test Version entirely, along with Virus Nybbles and Cookies.
  • Originally, Nybbles such as the Malware Nybble were planned to be A.I. enemies rather than playable characters in the Battle Zone. At some point, in the Test Version, there was a NPC Malware Nybble named "Good Ol' A.I. Testing" near the Fire Pit. This Malware Nybble didn't move, and had multiple ROBLOX forcefields applied to it. It could not be damaged, but had collision and could be stood on top of. However, the concept of NPC Nybbles never fully came to light.
  • Nybbles such as the Malware Nybble were often used for raids on release in Databrawl Roleplay, but since raids are not allowed on Databrawl, they are now rare.
  • On August 15, 2018, DuncanDunclub made an announcement in the Databrawl Discord server asking for Databrawl fans to come up with advanced Nybble design ideas. Fans came up with advanced Nybble ideas and posted them in the fan art channel of the server, however, no design was ever chosen for advanced Malware Nybbles based on this contest. Instead, DuncanDunclub made his own design and added it to the game sometime in 2021.
  • Instead of leaning forwards when moving forwards, Malware Nybbles lean backwards when they move forwards.
  • DuncanDunclub once said that a group of Nybbles are called "Lads". Whether this is still canon or not is unknown.
  • Malware Nybbles were revamped on March 14th, 2020 along with their Virus counterpart and Bytes, and returned to battle on March 15th, 2020.
  • During Databrawl's 2020 Hectic Holiday Event, regular Malware Nybbles were replaced with burning Malware Nybbles. The burning Malware Nybbles maintained a constant distressed expression, presumably due to their burning condition.
  • During Databrawl's 2020 Hallow's Eve Event, in battle, regular Malware Nybbles gained Maramel head attachments that gave them horns and orange protrusions on their heads.
  • Originally, Malware Nybbles threw items to give them to other teammates. This was later changed into the "slapping" method.
  • Originally, Malware Nybbles couldn't eat Program Hearts or food. This was later changed so that they could eat food with a menu similar to the Firewall Shot-Baton's menu.

MaIware Bodiers are a really big and strong variant of Malware. They're basically like sumo wrestlers. They even wear sumo wrestler belts.

DatabrawI BattIe Zone[]

In the Battle Zone, Malware Bodiers are Special Token-Earnable characters.

Stats[]

950HP, 20 Walkspeed. Unable to jump or use jump pads. Able to consume food. Autoheal every 2 seconds.

Weapons/Abilities[]

Giga Punchers - Malware Bodiers can punch using their fists, called "Giga Punchers". This attack (categorized as a "Massive Fists" attack) does 48-52 damage with a 1.375 second cooldown.

Super Smash - Malware Bodiers can do an AOE "Super Smash" attack by slamming their fists into the ground, which causes a cloud of blue dust to rise from the ground. This attack does 20-24 damage in a 36 stud radius with a 15 second cooldown.

Knockback Resistance - Malware Bodiers cannot be flung by Mines or Special Tokens.

More Facts[]

  • At one point far prior to February 2, 2020, Malware Bodiers were in Databrawl's Battle Zone as Special Token characters, however, they were eventually removed. On February 2nd, 2020, they were re-added to the game after their first removal. A day after that, they were turned into a rare spawn. On September 14, 2020, rare spawns were disabled, causing Bodiers to get removed for a second time. On September 27, 2020, Bodiers returned and were turned back into Special Token characters.
  • Before the major update on August 9, 2020, there could only be one Malware Bodier in existence at a time in Databrawl's Battle Zone. After this update happened, there can now be multiple Malware Bodiers at a time.
  • On July 18, 2021, Malware and Virus Bodier were revamped into their current designs.

Malware Titans are a colossal variant of Malware. In lore, like all Titans, Malware Titans can have the same level of intelligence as any other character, meaning that they are not necessarily mindless brutes. However, due to them generally prioritizing physical strength over knowledge, they tend to not be particularly intelligent.

Weapons/Abilities[]

Large Ground Smash - Malware Titans are extremely powerful, capable of doing ear-shattering Ground Smashes with their fists that produce invisible shockwaves on the ground that can heavily damage anybody within range. Their Ground Smashes also lift up lots of blue dust from the ground. When Malware Titans were initially added as bosses for Databrawl's Battle Zone, the amount of damage dealt by their Ground Smash depended on how close a player was to the Malware Titan. Additionally, the Ground Smash would cause players to get flung away if they were on the ground and were too close.

More Malware Titan Facts[]

  • In Databrawl Roleplay, Malware Titans are restricted characters.
  • Malware Titans were in Databrawl's Battle Zone at one point as AI-controlled bosses, but they were removed from the game just like every other boss. Upon defeat, they would cease moving, and small damage particle explosions would begin appearing on them slowly at first but then quickly and in larger numbers, then they would violently explode into giant damage particles, making an ear-shattering explosion noise. Upon exploding, they would drop lots of resources such as food and Mines.
  • Malware Titans along with their Virus counterpart temporarily returned in Databrawl (battle version) on September 27, 2020, and again on September 27, 2022.
  • The Malware Titan's midsection was originally blue, but was changed to white a bit later on.

More Malware Titan Images[]

Malware Summoners are a powerful class variant of Malware. They are robed, upright entities with four hands, three faces (one in the front, two on either sides of their head), and a protrusion on top of their head.

Lore[]

Typically, Malware Summoners are one of the least common units seen in a Malware army.

Some Malware Summoners have one or more Malware assistants who are exempt from being forced to battle. These assistants are usually standard Malware dressed in cloaks, and sometimes these assistants are shorter than usual. The reason why standard Malware are typically chosen to be Malware Summoners' assistants is because standard units are rounded in skill overall.

Weapons/Abilities[]

Unit Spawning - Malware Summoners can spawn various units of their respective species (Malware in this case). They can only spawn units up to a certain size and can only spawn them within a certain range, unlike Malware Hosts who lack these spawning limitations. When summoning units, Malware Summoners canonically produce portal-like objects called "Summoner runes" that the spawned units come out of.

Resurrection - Some Malware Summoners have the ability to revive deceased individuals of their species, although there is difficulty with doing this.

Lesser/Greater Subclass Variants[]

In addition to the regular Malware Summoner, there are other variations of Malware Summoners, such as the lesser and greater subclass variations.

Malware Spawners[]

Malware Spawners are the "lesser" Malware Summoner variant. According to DuncanDunclub,"Spawners often hang around and take orders from greater summoner classes, sometimes practicing their magic in groups of 2 or 3". They are represented ingame as gamepass exclusive accessories for standard Malware.

Malware Liches[]

Malware Liches are the "greater" Malware Summoner variant. According to DuncanDunclub,"Liches [...] are rarely seen with other liches, and prefer secluded environments such as the deepest parts of a corruption stronghold. While liches are very adept in their magical capabilities, they still find enjoyment in flexing their skills on live subjects".

More Malware Summoner Facts[]

  • Malware Summoners were first shown on January 8, 2019. They initially had no name, and looked somewhat similar to their current design albeit with significant differences (such as different body shape, etc.). On May 9, 2019, they were redesigned and received their "Summoner" name. This redesign was extremely close to the final version seen in-game, but had very slight differences, such as the front part of the robe not coming all the way to the bottom of the body.

More Malware Summoner Images[]

Malware Biggums are standard Malware who are evolving into Malware Brawlers.

Malware Biggums are slightly taller than a standard Malware and are typically stronger than an average Malware.

Weapons/Abilities[]

Malware Biggums are capable of wielding weapons, along with using their fists to beat up enemies.

Variants[]

  • Malware Biggum
  • Malware Hefter

More Images[]

Malware Hefters are a subclass of Malware Biggum. They wield large axes, and are larger than normal Malware Biggums and taller than Malware Brawlers.

More Facts[]

  • Malware Hefters were to first kind of Hefter to ever be shown, being first shown on January 8, 2019. They initially had no name, and had a slightly different design compared to their current one. On May 8, 2019, they were redesigned, received their Hefter name and also got a Virus counterpart (though said counterpart was eventually made non-canon on February 1, 2021).

More Images[]

Malware Ironas are a variant of Malware that typically wear thick armor. When they aren't wearing their armor, they are basically like stronger Malware Brawlers.

Malware Ironas are often regular soldiers in war, but sometimes they are placed into high command positions due to their balance of brains, brawn, and maneuverability.

More Malware Irona Facts[]

  • A Virus counterpart for Malware Ironas originally existed. However, they were confirmed to be non-canon around June 16, 2021.

More Malware Irona Images[]

Malware Butlers are a rare sub-class of the standard Malware. They wear suits, have curly hair, and fingers. These fingers are used for handling things delicately.

Malware Butlers mainly hang around high-ranking entities, such as leader figures. They serve their leaders via doing their bidding for personal manners (like bringing them a drink), but don't do a lot of heavy physical labor. They typically don't take orders from lower-ranked entities.

Malware Workers are a Malware Brawler subclass. Unlike the regular Malware Brawler class, they are shorter in height. Additionally, they tend to be less intelligent than Malware Brawlers, but can do simple tasks.

Malware Workers mainly do heavy physical labor. They work in controlled environments due to the fact that they are not well suited for deployment on the battlefield, unlike most other units (which are often capable of doing the work that Malware Workers do, but are usually deployed in combat situations instead).

Additionally, Malware Workers are bossed around by other Malware, which is something they are used to.

More Facts[]

  • One of the concept names for the Corruption Worker subclass was "Heavy Duty". The "Heavy Duty" name was ultimately dropped in favor of the "Worker" name.

Gallery[]

Malware Brutes are a sub-class of the Brawler class. They are bigger and stronger than Malware Brawlers, but slower. They are also less common than Malware Brawlers in combat.

More Facts[]

  • Malware Brutes are based off of the original version of Corruption Brawlers back in Databrawl's pre-alpha and 2017 era. Brawlers were originally called "Brutes" due to the fact that in the game "Protest Simulator", the stronger versions of the playable characters were called "Brutes". You can read more about how Protest Simulator is connected to Databrawl and read more about the original version of Brawlers here.

More Images[]

Malware Hosts are a large, extremely powerful class variant of Malware. They look fleshy and organic unlike most other variants of Malware. They also have a giant, blue trapezoidal eye with a square-shaped black pupil in the middle of their body. They have Malware symbols all over their face around the eye area, with the symbol on top of the center of their eye resembling a standard Malware head.

Lore[]

Malware Hosts are stationary beings who attach themselves to walls and other kinds of structures, essentially merging themselves with the structure they choose to attach themselves to. Once they're attached, they don't go anywhere because they can't really move around too much on their own.

Malware Hosts are created via a ritual that involves Program Hearts. First, around a million Program Hearts are gathered then crushed into a thick goo. Then, a Malware proceeds to sacrifice themselves into a goo-like substance in order to make a Malware Host. In order for the Host-making ritual to work properly, the sacrifice must be a greater Corruption (something more powerful than a standard Malware in this case), which could be a Malware Brawler, an Advanced Malware, etc. The sacrificed entities who become Malware Hosts retain their memories from their past life, and in some cases, they retain the exact same personality they had prior to the transformation.

Weapons/Abilities[]

Unit Spawning - Malware Hosts have the ability to spawn basic units of of their species (in this case, Malware) and of any class/variant. Malware Hosts are also not contained to a limited spawning range when they spawn the units. The lack of limitations on Malware Hosts' spawning abilities distinguishes their spawning abilities from those of Malware Summoners, who are more limited in their spawning abilities.

Mind Control - Malware Hosts have the ability to mind-control all of the units they spawn at once, with few Malware being able to escape the mind-control. Malware Hosts are capable of controlling millions and millions of units at once. Typically, once the destructive work is done, Malware Hosts allow their previously mind-controlled soldiers to roam around the computer freely until they are needed again.

Merging/Linking - Malware Hosts have the ability to ally with other Malware Hosts and merge with them. Merged Malware Hosts have a greater influence than standalone Malware Hosts. When more than 12 Malware Hosts merge together (which is an uncommon occurrence as Malware Hosts usually cease merging at the normal maximum of 12), they form a Greater Host, which is an even more powerful variant of Malware Host. Few Malware are able to resist the influence of Greater Hosts, with one of the only known ones being able to do so being Malicious. Malware Hosts can also choose not to merge and to instead link their flesh together to form "Knowledge Veins". Knowledge Veins connect the minds of the Malware Hosts involved. A nearly infinite amount of Malware Hosts can link together and form Knowledge Veins, unlike with merging where there's usually a limit of 12 Malware Hosts.

More Malware Host Facts[]

  • A Malware Host was the very first ever kind of Host to be shown, with a Virus Host being shown quickly after.
  • Malware Hosts and Virus Hosts were originally planned to be Coin drop-off points in Databrawl's Battle Zone, however, flag posts were used instead until drop-off points were ultimately removed from the game. This was due to the complexity of the Virus/Malware Hosts' design, which would be more difficult to model than the flag posts.

Real World Counterpart[]

Malware, short for "malicious software", is a term used for any software that is designed to negatively affect a computer. This kind of software encompasses many different types, including viruses, spyware, worms, and many more. The malware seen ingame represent general malware without any specific traits that would define them as a different type of malware.

Miscellaneous Variants[]

There are also variants that aren't ranks nor classes, but rather "roles" which could be applied to any of the aforementioned variants, and variants that aren't roles but aren't ranks/classes either.

Scrapped Variants[]

There are also variants that have been decanonized and are now not canon.

Alternate Types[]

Not only are there different class variants of Malware, but there are also alternate types of these class variants. The most commonly seen type is the default type, which is the mascot of the Malware team in Databrawl's Battle Zone.

Notable Malware[]

Canon[]

  • Muadeu
  • Moseph
  • Sister Malice (A high-ranking Summoner currently only seen in an RP comic shown on the Discord server. Not much is known about them.)
  • Mauvy

Noncanon/Scrapped[]

Notable Factions[]

  • Fists of Honor (Muadeu's army.)
    • Blood Boys (Moseph's army.)
    • Splitheads (Sister Malice's army.)
    • Three other currently unnamed armies.
  • Crusher Clan (Exiles from past leaderships.)

More Facts[]

Lore[]

  • Malware have an army symbol, which looks like a blue "M" with an angry Malware eye in it.
  • If Malware discover that an individual they corrupted still has some or all of their memories of their past life, Malware typically try to keep that individual away from the battlefield, and may even treat the individual as though they were still a Program or another piece of software. The individual might also be imprisoned (or tortured/interrogated depending on the type of software that the individual used to be).
  • Malware listen to deep orchestral music with deep vocals, which soothes them. This music often gives the impression of a cult, and scares off software.

Trivia[]

  • There is a Restricted character called "Laughing Malware". It is a standard Malware which uses a the 2018 Malware model. Upon first glance it appears normal, however, when a player presses a voiceline key (Z,X,C,V,B,N,M) while using it, it will play a laughing audio with Malware voice effects applied to it. This is the only voiceline it has. Its in-game description reads as follows: "bruh look at this duuuuuude"
  • There is a Restricted character called "Malware Gigabyte". It is an oversized Malware Byte that has more edges than a typical Malware Byte.
  • Malware were one of the first, base four characters to be added to Databrawl (with the other three being Viruses, Programs, and Firewall Security units). They have been in the game since the game's beginning.
  • Originally, the Malware "shocked" facial expression used the eye for the "closed" expression both canonically and in-game. This was canonically changed on May 28, 2019, when DuncanDunclub posted a drawing of updated Corruption facial expressions. However, the "shocked" expression in-game was not changed to match the facial expression artwork until a while later.
  • Malware's "Crusher" accessories are based off of a speculative "Crusher Clan" Malware faction that was first revealed on January 19, 2021. This faction went against the Malware's more clean and organized behavior as seen in lore. Due to this, they and the Crusher accessories are seen as non-canon.
