This page contains many lore elements that are not considered part of the new, official lore. It's very unlikely that it will still be considered canon for new lore, but will maintain relevance in old lore.
Hardware are gray, knight-like entities with two horns, one on each side of their head.
They also have an eye-hole slit and small air-holes on their face. They are also one of the few characters to lack an outline, and this is presumably due to Hardware not being made out of digital data.
Additionally, Hardware are the base variant of the Hardware species.
Lore[]
In lore, Hardware are solid armor that is possessed by blue fire-like creatures called Hardware Wisps. The armor that Hardware are made from is composed of chunks of metal that come from the computer terrain. This terrain metal is the literal hardware of the computer, and once a Wisp stops possessing its armor, the metal chunks go back to their original position within the computer.
Databrawl (Battle Version)[]
In Databrawl, Hardware are Special Characters obtained by Special Tokens. They are the second strongest character on the Program team health-wise (first being Bloatware).
Stats[]
Hardware have 300 HP, but can't use food machines to spawn food. However, they can still pick up food off of the ground. Hardware have 22 walkspeed.
Weapons/Abilities[]
- Greatsword - In combat, Hardware wield Greatswords which they typically swing in a diagonal/horizontal direction. This weapon is categorized as a "Swiping Melee" weapon, and it deals 40-44 damage. The cooldown for the weapon is 1.75 seconds.
- Greatsword Slam - Hardware can also slam its Greatsword into the ground instead of swinging it normally. This attack is similar to a Brawler's Ground Smash, in that it is AOE and will hit you if you're in range, even if you jump off the ground. This attack can be performed by pressing "Q" once a meter on the side of the screen fills up. This attack has a radius of 24 studs and deals the same amount of damage as the swing.
- Knockback Resistance - Hardware cannot be flung by Mines or Special Tokens.
- Lightning Boost - Hardware does not take any damage from lightning strikes, getting hit by a lightning strike instead gives a temporary 0.25 speed boost.
- Fearless - In Battle Mode, Hardware cannot be scared by Scareware.
More Hardware (Standard) Facts[]
- Originally, a very long time ago (in mid 2018), Hardware lacked Mine Knockback Resistance and was able to be flung by mines.
- Hardware originally lacked the Greatsword Slam attack.
- When Hardware was added to Databrawl's Test Version for the first time ever when Special Characters was still fresh and new (in mid 2018), they had more health (around 700 health points).
- During Databrawl's Halloween 2018 event, the appearance of Hardware changed. Its gray color became darkened, and the holes in their face became lit with orange flames. The Greatsword also became flaming. This version of Hardware, called "Flame Hardware", became a restricted playable character in Databrawl's Roleplay version after the Halloween 2018 event ended. This character later got removed for unknown reasons. They made a reappearance in the 2021 Jokebrawl Event however.
- During Databrawl's Christmas 2019 event, the appearance of Hardware changed. The holes in their face became a glowing icy blue color, and visible icicles and a bit of snow could be seen on them. The Greatsword remained normal. This version of Hardware, called "Frosted Hardware", became a Badge-Earned character in Databrawl's Roleplay version on December 24, 2019.
- When Hardware die the parts stay on the ground for a bit referencing how they are just possessed armor. Originally, closer to around when Hardware were first added to the Battle Zone, the Hardware parts did not drop onto the ground upon death, instead they would poof into white, triangular particles similarly to other characters.
- Hardware was one of the first fanmade characters to be added to Databrawl Roleplay, along with Scareware and Ransomware. This makes it one of the oldest Databrawl Roleplay Contributor-made characters.
- Hardware used to not be able to eat food. This was reversed on January 5, 2024.

Hardware Paladins are a chunky class variant of Hardware. They have plumes made of blue fire, presumably the same kind of fire that Hardware Wisps are made out of.
Databrawl Battle Zone[]
In the Battle Zone, Paladins are a Special Token-earnable character for the Firewall Security team only during April Fools event. However they can also be accessed by getting a Special Token in Databrawl Origins as a Program.
Stats[]
Hardware Paladins have 425HP and unknown speed.
Weapons/Abilities[]
Grand Warhammer - Hardware Paladins carry giant, menacing warhammers called "Grand Warhammers". When used, Paladins will slowly swing it horizontally and then place it back on their shoulder. This attack deals 48-52 damage and has a cooldown of about 3.25 seconds.
Tantrum - Hardware Paladins have the ability to slam their fists into the ground, which causes a cloud of blue (color can change depending on player's color) dust to rise from the ground. It increases their Damage and Speed by 0.25 and 0.5 respectively for 10 seconds. This move has a cooldown of 45 seconds.
Knockback Resistance - Hardware Paladins cannot be flung by Mines or Special Tokens.
More Hardware Paladin Facts[]
- There is a restricted variant of Hardware Paladin called "Royal Hardware Paladin" that is larger than the regular Hardware Paladin and is also golden. Its in-game description reads as follows: "Now that's hardware". It wields a larger variant of the Grand Warhammer called the "Royal Grand Warhammer". This particular version of the Grand Warhammer is similar in appearance to the Dark Souls II™️ weapon.
- Hardware Paladins were added to Databrawl Roleplay around June 2019.
- In Battle Zone, entire Hardware Paladin's moveset is transferred from Databrawl Origins.
- Unlike other Special Token characters, Hardware Paladins will have a golden version of their weapon, just like other Non-Token standart characters have, similar to the Royal Grand Warhammer if the player equips Grandmaster Crown.

Hardware Guardians are a class variant of Hardware. They have plumes made of blue fire, presumably the same kind of fire that Hardware Wisps are made out of.
Other than that, not much else is known about Hardware Guardians.

Hardware Wisps are blue, fire-like creatures who lack personalities and feelings.
They are technically Hardware "bytes", however, they are not actually Bytes, rather, they are just in a similar class to Bytes. They can vary in size and flame intensity, and the larger and more intense the wisp, the stronger it is. They are also resilient to most forms of damage.
Weapons/Abilities[]
Hardware Wisps have the ability to possess solid metal chunks of terrain. The possessed chunks turn into Hardware. The variant of Hardware that a Wisp forms upon possessing terrain can vary. In some computers, Hardware Wisps are shot into sections of the computer to quickly form Hardware that can immediately attack malicious invaders.Hardware Wisp Variants[]
- Hardware Wisp
- Master Hardware Wisp (These particular Hardware Wisps control Anthro-class Hardware, such as Hardware Generals and Mainframes.)

Hardware Generals are Anthro-class Hardware units that are known to be bigger than Mainframe. Overall, Hardware Generals look similar to each other, but can have a few visual differences from each other, such as small additions to their armor or different patterns in their helmets.
Unlike most Hardware units, Hardware Generals are sentient and have personalities. However, most Hardware Generals are,"[...] cold, unfriendly and generally do not care for conversation [...]" -DuncanDunclub. An exception to this the Processor's Hardware General, who has a friendly and knightly personality, and even carries a storybook that he reads to Programs. This particular Hardware General looks dramatically different from typical Generals. He has a golden coloration that matches the color of the Processor Palace, fine details and a few moving parts along the front of his helmet to portray emotions. He also serves as a leader for the other Generals.
There are multiple Hardware Generals within a computer, and they fight to defend the computer once it's under a major attack. Each Hardware General watches over a sector of the computer, and all Hardware units (including Hardware Wisps) in a particular sector are commanded by the sector's General. Meanwhile, the Generals (including the Processor's General, presumably) follow the orders of Mainframe.
Weapons/Abilities[]
Each Hardware General uses a different weapon to combat against Corruptions, meaning that no two Hardware Generals in a computer fight in the same manner.
More Hardware General Information[]
- Hardware General Wisps can be corrupted by Corruptions. In order for this to happen, the Wisp must be greatly weakened, then constrained to prevent it from fighting back. Then, a group of powerful Corruptions (such as Summoners and Liches) must be gathered to begin the conversion. Additionally, any defenders trying to protect the Wisp must be warded off during the conversion process. Once a Hardware General Wisp is corrupted, the Hardware General's appearance changes to match the appearance of its corruptors (i.e. if a Hardware General is corrupted by a Virus, its appearance will change to be more Virus-esque), and all remaining Hardware units and Wisps that belong to the now-corrupted General will be corrupted alongside the General.
- The Processor's Hardware General can be corrupted like regular Hardware General, however, if he is corrupted, his corruption won't spread to other Hardware. However, it will affect the other Hardware Generals on an emotional level.
Hardware Vulture are a class variant of Hardware that have wings.
They are most commonly spotted in action in Love Computers due to the large amount of open space in those computers, however this does not mean that Love Computers are the only computers that they are used in.
Weapons/Abilties[]
Hardware Vultures have the ability to glide by using their wings. Their wings cannot provide flight however, as Hardware Vultures are too bulky to fly.
Hardware Vultures are used like weapons whereas they are shot out of cannons aimed at invading Corruption vessels. They often must glide through the air in order to strike the intended target. When they get close to the vessel target, they bring their wings forwards in order to penetrate the exterior of the vessel. Sometimes they are even able to get inside of the vessel upon penetrating it. They are also used to divebomb Corruption vessels that attempt to attack from below.

Real World Counterpart[]
Hardware is a term used for any physical components of a computer, such as a mouse, keyboard, monitor, hard drive, and motherboard. Some malware, such as CIH, can affect and even damage hardware on a computer.
Alternate Types[]
The appearance, behavior, and function of Hardware do not vary dramatically, if at all, from computer to computer. The reason why their appearance does not vary across computers is because the majority of computers have the same type of metal as one another, and Hardware Wisps must use metal from the computer in order to form Hardware. Thus, there are not many alternate types of Hardware to list:
- Hardware (Default)
- Hardware Jawbreaker (Hollow)
- Hardware Kriger (Holly)
- Frosted Hardware (NONCANON)
Although Hardware usually do not vary physically from computer to computer, the inhabitants of a computer may treat their Hardware differently, and like the one alternate Hardware listed above, there can be specialized variants of Hardware (although they are very rare):
Additionally, the design of Hardware can change with time. According to JamezBladze, "the first hardware would've been really blocky and slow."
