Hosts were a large, extremely powerful variant of Corruption, specifically Malware or Virus. They are scrapped and are no longer canon to Databrawl lore.
They looked fleshy and organic unlike most other variants of Corruption. They also had a giant eyes with black pupils in the center of it. They had symbols all over their face around the eye area, with the symbol on top of the center of their eye resembling the head of the standard unit of whatever faction they were.
Lore[]
Hosts were stationary beings that attached themselves to walls and other kinds of structures, essentially merging themselves with the structure they chose to attach themselves to. Once they're attached, they didn't go anywhere because they couldn't really move around too much on their own.
Hosts were created via a ritual that involves Program Hearts. First, around a million Program Hearts were gathered then crushed into a thick goo. Then, a Malware or Virus proceeds to sacrifice themselves in the goo-like substance in order to make a Host. In order for the Host-making ritual to work properly, the sacrifice must be a greater Corruption (something more powerful than a basic standard in this case), which could be a Brawler, an Advanced standard, etc. The sacrificed entities who become Hosts retained their memories from their past life, and in some cases, they retain the exact same personality they had prior to the transformation.
Weapons/Abilities[]
Unit Spawning - Hosts had the ability to spawn basic units of of their species and of any class/variant. Hosts were also not contained to a limited spawning range when they spawn the units. The lack of limitations on Hosts' spawning abilities distinguishes their spawning abilities from those of Summoners, who were more limited in their spawning abilities.
Mind Control - Hosts had the ability to mind-control all of the units they spawn at once, with few being able to escape their mind-control. Hosts were capable of controlling millions and millions of units at once. Typically, once the destructive work is done, Hosts allowed their previously mind-controlled soldiers to roam around the computer freely until they were needed again.
Merging/Linking - Hosts also had the ability to ally with other Hosts of their species and merge with them. Merged Hosts had a greater influence than standalone Hosts. When more than 12 Hosts merge together (which is an uncommon occurrence as Hosts usually cease merging at the normal maximum of 12), they form a Greater Host, which is an even more powerful variant of Host. Few were able to resist the influence of Greater Hosts. Hosts can also choose not to merge and to instead link their flesh together to form "Knowledge Veins". Knowledge Veins connect the minds of the Hosts involved. A nearly infinite amount of Hosts can link together and form Knowledge Veins, unlike with merging where there's usually a limit of 12 Hosts.
More Facts[]
- Malware Hosts were the very first ever kind of Host to be shown, with Virus Hosts being shown quickly after.
- Hosts were originally planned to be Coin drop-off points in Databrawl's Battle Zone, however, flag posts were used instead until drop-off points were ultimately removed from the game. This was due to the complexity of the Hosts' design, which would be more difficult to model than the flag posts.
