Real World Counterpart[]
In real life, Mirai is a botnet named after the Japanese word for future, as well as the 2011 anime series "Future Diary". Being a botnet, it turns Linux-running networked devices into remotely controlled bots that can be used in large-scale network attacks. It primarily targets online consumer devices and has been used in particularly large distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks. It was initially used by its creators to DDoS Minecraft servers, with it being used to operate a protection racket.
More Facts[]

- Other than their names, character pack, non-canon status, and alignment, Mirai has nothing to do with Imp, which was originally named and based off of Mirai.
- Mirai's description and the blocky nature of their appearance is a reference to Minecraft, which the real Mirai was known to affect.
- Similarly, Mirai's design is somewhat based off of Yuno Gasai from Mirai Nikki, which the real Mirai was named after.
