Ping Pongs are a species of Corruption. They resemble ping pong paddles.
Real World Counterpart[]
In real life, Ping Pong, also referred to as Boot, Bouncing Ball, Bouncing Dot, Italian, Italian-A, or VeraCruz, is an early boot sector virus that originated in Italy. It is introduced to a system when an infected floppy disk is booted. After said disk is booted, Ping Pong becomes a memory resident while the original boot sector is moved to a free location on the disk, which will then be marked as a bad sector so the MS-DOS doesn't overwrite it. While the virus is resident, it will infect any floppy disk accessed for reading or writing. About thirty minutes after Ping Pong activates, a ball will be displayed and begin to bounce off the edges of the screen, as well as off of certain characters. The virus doesn't cause any serious damage except on certain machines, which would sometimes crash as soon as the ball appears onscreen.
Ping Pong is notable for possibly being one of the most common and infamous boot sector viruses until Stoned outnumbered it. To see Ping Pong in action, click here.
