This page contains many lore elements that are not considered part of the new, official lore. It's very unlikely that it will still be considered canon for new lore, but will maintain relevance in old lore.
Spyware are a species of Corruption who mainly partake in espionage.
Databrawl (Battle version)[]
Spyware can be obtained as a playable character by collecting a Special Token as a Corruption. It has 3 unique weapons.
Stats[]
125 HP, 24 Walkspeed
Weapons/Abilities[]
Spy Knife - A Thrusting Melee weapon that is a weaker version of the normal Knife, having a cooldown of 0.6 seconds and dealing 28-32 damage.
Cloak - A move which provides (at maximum) 10 seconds of full invisibility. The move can be cancelled while active at any time (via unequipping it or clicking the screen again after activating it), and while not in use, it can be recharged. If the move is active for a long enough period of time whereas its timer counter is allowed to hit zero, the Spyware using the move must wait for the move to fully recharge before they can use it again. When activated once in a while, the Spyware gains a temporary x0.25 increase in walkspeed, totaling up to 30 walkspeed.
Disguise Tool - A book-shaped tool which allows the Spyware using it to change their appearance to any standard base character (Program, Malware, Virus, Firewall Security) of their choice. Equipping the Spy Knife, switching the appearance of the disguise while already disguised, or being hit will forcefully cancel the disguise. The tool has a cooldown of 3 seconds, which activates when a disguise is cancelled in any way.
Spyware Hitmen are basically Spyware Brawlers.
Not much is known about them.
Weapons/Abilities[]
Spy Fists - Spyware Hitmen have the ability to punch their enemies with their fists, called "Spy Fists".
3-Shot Revolver - Spyware Hitmen also carry revolvers which, as the name implies, can fire three shots before needing to be reloaded.
Big Disguise Tool - A book-shaped tool which allows the Spyware Hitman using it to change their appearance to the brawler version of any base character of their choice. Equipping a weapon, switching the appearance of the disguise while already disguised, or being hit will forcefully cancel the disguise.More Spyware Hitman Facts[]
- DuncanDunclub once made an old concept of the Spyware Hitmen, showing that they would have different tools from standard Spyware. For example, instead of using a Spy Knife as a weapon, they would use their fists as weapons. Additionally, Spyware Hitmen would've had 3-Shot Revolvers as weapons. Furthermore, while Spyware Hitmen would've had the ability to disguise themselves as other characters like standard Spyware, they would've lacked the ability to cloak. Spyware Hitmen's disguise ability would've featured Brawler/Chubb variant disguises rather than standard variant disguises.
- Interestingly, unlike regular Brawlers, Spyware Hitmen's fists are not called "Megapunchers" in their concept art.
- Spyware Hitmen were temporarily added to battle on September 28, 2021.

Spyware Recons are basically Spyware Bytes.
Recon units cannot attack, but can cloak and disguise. Their main function is to send on-battlefield information that standard soldiers don't yet know to their employers, so they can make tactical moves they wouldn't have been able to do before. Because of its lack of attack, it can only disguise as support class bytes - Which means no firewall disguise.

Real World Counterpart[]
Spyware describes any malware that give information about one computer to another over the internet without permission from the first computer's user. Usually, it is packaged with actual software. However, some spyware may be legitimate, and are used by employers to monitor their employees or by parents to monitor their children. Examples of spyware include DarkHotel, CoolWebSearch, and HawkEye.
Alternate Types[]
More Facts[]
- Spyware was in fact, the first Databrawl OC- Original Character -to be created! This is not counting recolors or simple edits of existing characters.
- cryebral co-contributed Spyware with Lihingmui when it was first added - however at a point, thought it better to allow Lihingmui to be the sole contributor of the character, as they made more than cryebral had.
- This was soon reverted when Lihingmui resigned from Slam Dunc Studios and cryebral was appointed to pick up with Spyware stuff. Quite the rocky history.
- Spyware is heavily inspired by the Team Fortress 2 character Spy. It is a direct reference to the character.
- Additionally, the Utopi Spyware is a crab, which is likely a reference to the Team Fortress 2 meme/trend "Spycrab".
- There was a glitch (now patched) that when using the Disguise Tool and cloaking, the Spyware character and the character used as a disguise will mix. There is a video on Youtube showcasing this.
- However, it is still doable in the Battle Zone, as shown here.
- There used to be a bug where players who were not Spyware could use the Disguise Tool. For example, a Hardware disguised as a Virus could wield a Greatsword as a Virus. This was possibly caused by picking up the Disguise Book after it had been dropped somehow.
- Spyware seems to have glasses that fits the style of its visor.
- In the Battle Zone, when a Spyware disguises as another character, its name will change to one of the user's names in that character's team.
- In Databrawl Roleplay, the Cloak ability only makes Spyware translucent rather than fully transparent like in the Battle Zone.
- Whenever a Spyware holds a Bloat Blob when disguised, it will keep its disguise. This can allow combos like Firewall Security or Programs holding Bloat blobs, which is impossible normally.
- Spyware do not have a heart above its head if it's disguised as something. For example; a Firewall Security unit sees a Spyware disguised as a Program and can identify it by if the heart is on it's head or not, or by the chat color.
- Their appearance alongside Ransomware in an old version of the Inception Antivirus Base technically makes them one of the first fan-made characters added to battle, back before Special Tokens were added to the game.
- Spyware's Pre-Alpha design was noticeably different than its current design, having two eyes and different glasses. This version of Spyware, or rather a recreation of it made by cryebral, was made playable during the 2023 Jokebrawl Dontplay event.
